Canto a tenore and archeology: the riches of Barbagia

The Barbagia region in Sardinia is very rich in very ancient archaeological sites, which make it a tourist destination different from the others that characterize the rest of the island. The name of the region derives from the Latin term Barbaria, as the Romans believed that the people who lived here were barbarians as they did not understand the language. Some of the most famous archaeological sites are: Su Romanzesu, a nuragic village made up of 100 huts; the necropolis of Ludurro, near Buddusò, where you can admire 6 Domus De Janas, houses of the fairies. The tombs were named in this way as it was believed that they were inhabited by fairy beings. Also noteworthy is the nuraghe Noelle, which stood in the center of a village of which not much remains, and the nuragic temple of Orune. The canto a tenore, which originates in Bitti, is part of the intangible heritage of Sardinia (and of Humanity). In canto a tenore it is sung by four male voices called sa boche (which is the lead voice), su bassu (guttural bass), sa contra (contralto) and sa mesu boche which, according to some, mimics the voice of the wind.
