Far from the Verona-Venice tourist route, the city located in the upper polesine has a great historical and cultural wealth. Located between the two large river basins of the Po and the Adige, the ancient core winds around Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II with the 18th century Church of San Giovanni Battista. From the same period is the theater, recently restored and luxurious with decorations and gilded carvings along the boxes. Upstairs there is the Balzan gallery which collects paintings by important painters of the '800 and' 900 such as Soffici, Previati, Fattori, De Nittis. The oldest church building is located in Vangadizza. Known as the Abbey of Santa Maria, the Monastery is now home to a library collection that collects historical documents and parchments. This place under the Estiense government, in fact, enlarged the territorial jurisdiction thanks to the reclamation and enhancement work of the Benedictine monks, who settled here in the 10th century. A large park extends around the Abbey making the visit even more beautiful.
