Alagna Valsesia

Located at the foot of Monte Rosa Alagna Valsesia is a typical alpine village, surrounded by an unspoiled natural environment. The history of the village is linked to the settlement of the Valser settlers who crossed the Alpine passes to descend to the Italian side of the Alps. The city was formed in 1400-1500 thanks to the count of Biandrate who called to cultivate the high lands of his properties as shepherds. of German origin. This community of shepherds was organized in farmhouses scattered on the mountain, today it is still possible to admire some examples of Valser houses in the hamlet of Pedemonte where the inhabitants with meticulous work have unearthed a typical house of 1628. The building now houses the museum valser, the building is spread over three floors and concentrates within it the various domestic and agricultural pastoral functions. In the basement there are: the living room, the stable, the kitchen for the processing of milk, the weaving room and the woodshed. Above the stable there is the bedroom with the alcove. The room with handicrafts is the deposit of carpenter's tools and the library. The exterior is surrounded by a loggia. In 1511 the church of San Giovanni Battista was built in late Gothic style, the frescoed façade is characterized by the presence of a triportic narthex. The interior in Baroque style has three naves separated by columns and cross vaults preserves a wonderful gilded wooden altar, there is also a reliquary containing the altar from the end of the 15th century and the statue of the Madonna of Oropa. At the bottom left there is the altar of the Madonna del Rosario, with the statue in the center surrounded by a series of tiles representing the fifteen mysteries contemplated in the rosary.
