What to see in Brescia in one day

Where: Brescia
(Brescia)
Genre: culture   fun   useful information

The city of Brescia, even if undervalued as a tourist destination, has a great cultural and artistic heritage. The historic center of the city is small and intimate, full of narrow streets and beautiful views. The Museum of Santa Giulia collects over 3000 years of history of the city, the museum itinerary winds through churches, cloisters and monasteries. In the upper room of Santa Maria in Solario there is the Cross of Desiderius, the bronze statue of Aphrodite-Victoria and the Nuns' Choir with its spectacular frescoes. Directly from the museum there is access to an archaeological area of 1000 meters in which there are the remains of two Roman houses. The Archaeological Park is the largest Roman archaeological complex in Lombardy; in Roman times the city was one of the most important in northern Italy, in this area there are the Capitolium, the Sanctuary, the Theater and a section of the decumanus maximus. The church of Santa Maria della Carità takes its name from the fresco of the Madonna of the seventeenth century. The plant inside is octagonal in shape with frescoes and stuccoes in the Baroque style. In Brescia there are numerous squares, among the largest there are: piazza della Loggia with its marvelous monument decorated with various statues, piazza della Vittoria a large fascist space where once stood a medieval district, piazza Paolo VI is the heart of the city with many important buildings and rooms equipped for nightlife. Brescia is the city of the two domes, in contrast to each other are the New and Old Cathedral. The Old Cathedral preserves inside the sarcophagus of Maggi made at the beginning of the fourteenth century in red Verona marble. Duomo Nuovo is the main church of the city, inside it preserves the ark of Sant'Apollonio. On the top of the Cidneo hill stands the castle of Brescia which is one of the best preserved fortresses in northern Italy. Inside there are 2 museums: that of the Risorgimento and that of weapons.
