Get to know Enna

Enna is the highest provincial capital in Italy, with its 942 meters above sea level. It has 29,000 inhabitants. The poet Callimaco called it navel of Sicily for its absolutely central position in the region, strategic and absolutely impregnable. The visit of the city cannot but start from the belvedere, beloved by the people of Enna, a large panoramic terrace from which you can enjoy a breathtaking spectacle: you can see Mount Etna, the castle of Enna and all the towns falling within the province of Enna. Here there is a statue in memory of the abduction of Proserpina, which took place according to mythology in the nearby lake of Pergusa by the hand of the god Pluto. Characteristic are the very narrow twisted streets of the historic center, which being outside the tourist circuits are very little known. The baroque cathedral, rebuilt in the 16th century, is a national monument and a UNESCO place of peace. A must is the medieval castle of Lombardy, which perfectly preserves a tower, called Pisana, from which you can enjoy an immeasurable panorama over the whole of Sicily. Close to the castle stands the fortress of Cerere, where a temple in honor of Demeter once stood.
