Bracigliano

Bracigliano is a town in the province of Salerno in Campania. There are different opinions on the origin of the name: from 'bracia', attributed to the great fire obtained in honor of the gods, from 'ager Aciliani', understood as the town of Acilio and from 'inter brachia montis', understood as in the arms of the Mountain. The origins of Bracigliano date back to the Etruscan era. The city was the scene of numerous battles, starting from the Samnite wars up to the Punic wars. The urban development of the city took place after the consolidation of the Lombard dominion. From 1806 to 1886, the town became part of the Principality of Citra, in the same period the history of Bracigliano is intertwined with that of the Kingdom of Italy. The church of San Giovanni Battista dates back to the mid-seventeenth century and is located between two chapels: the chapel of the Madonna della Grazia and the chapel of the Madonna del Rosario; the chapels still retain the ancient cemetery areas. In the chapel of the Madonna del Rosario it is possible to visit a monumental Neapolitan eighteenth-century nativity scene. The convent of San Francesco d'Assisi is a symbol of the strong Franciscan presence in the area. The convent was built by the will of the Miroballo spouses on an ancient property of theirs. Inside there are 4 chapels dedicated to Sant'Anna and other Franciscan saints, there are numerous statues and frescoes. Outside it is possible to admire a wonderful cloister embellished with arches and a central well. Palazzo de Simone, restored and inaugurated in 2014, is the city's auditorium that hosts numerous local music and dance-themed initiatives. Bracigliano is made up of the hamlets of: Casale, Spineto, Manzi, Casa Danise, Santa Lucia, Pero, San Nazario and Tuono, the latter being the most populated hamlet. In the cemetery of the city there is the chapel of the Minister of Grace and Justice Giovanni De Falco, one of the political leaders who represent the history of the city. The town hall is modern in style, inside there is a half-length statue of De Falco and his library. The church of Saints Nazario and Celso is of seventeenth-century origin, has a single nave and four altars, inside there are also the statue of San Luigi, San Biagio, the Immaculate Conception and Jesus. Typical product of the country is the cherry . During the year there are various events such as the 'Vecchie Emozioni' regarding the parade of vintage cars.
