Arezzo: historic and special village

The territory of Arezzo is very vast and varied. They range from the plain that leads to the Val di Chiana and the Arno, to the hills south of the city, to the mountains, especially to the east. It is located on a hill in south-eastern Tuscany, overlooking four valleys: Valtiberina, Casentino, Valdarno and Val di Chiana. This city has very ancient origins and its history is the envy of much more famous centers. First of all, it is one of the main Etruscan testimonies. Later it became a Roman center of strategic importance, a hub of flourishing economic activities, and rich in monuments, including the Amphitheater where today its extraordinary remains can be admired. At that time, his coral vase foundry and art factory enjoyed an excellent reputation, and his decorative techniques spread throughout the Roman world. In the Middle Ages it became a free municipality, in which the Ghibelline part prevailed and experienced a historical contrast with Florence. All the traces of the past are reflected in some way in the monuments and attractions of this special village. It is worth mentioning the Basilica of San Francesco, the Cathedral of San Donato, Piazza Grande and the Palazzo dei Priori; monuments linked to historical figures born in Arezzo, such as Giorgio Vasari or Francesco Petrarca.
