Campomarino

Campomarino is located on a promontory overlooking the Adriatic coast in the Molise region. The Greek myth about the birth of Campomarino tells that the god Diomede, after the Trojan war, married the daughter of king Dauno and became the owner of these places. Country destroyed several times by the invasions of Lombards and Normans and heavily damaged by the earthquake of 1456. Crucial was the Albanian migration that the country underwent in the fifteenth century, from which emerged the figure of Prince Giorgio Castriota Skanderbeg, protagonist of the Albanian struggle for independence. Famous monument is the church of Santa Maria a Mare, the name of the church is due to its proximity to the sea: at the time when the Adriatic coast line was built it was rather backward than today and reached under the slopes of the hill , in the square stands its bell tower built in the twelfth century, which over time has undergone changes that have almost completely canceled the Romanesque style. The ancient history blends with the tourist vocation of Campomarino Lido, blue flag for several years now, with wide and sandy beaches, clear waters and an 8 km coast suitable for families. Also important are the Bosco Le Fantine and the tourist port of Marina Santa Cristina.
