The authentic world of Foglianise

Among the majestic hills and mountains of the Sannio you can discover a village made of enchanting natural landscapes and strong traditions: Foglianise. It is a Samnite and Lombard mixture, many traces of history scattered around the city probably testify to the identity of Benevento and its municipalities. As far as art and buildings are concerned, in Foglianise it is worth discovering the Hermitage of San Michele, built by the Lombards in order to venerate the Archangel Michael. It is a sort of cave used as a church; to reach it, it is necessary to go through a network of lanes and alleys that are not a little complicated. But even watching the video you can realize that it is worth getting there. And for the views it offers, and for the feeling of living history that is perceived, visiting the Hermitage of San Michele can be accessed in a singular dimension. The world of Foglianise is an intertwining of past and present. The city is vibrant, the people are closed in its density and almost everyone knows each other and feels like they are inside a family. The story is reflected in the main manifestation of the place: the Wheat Festival. The event takes place from 8 to 18 August each year, and is linked to the cult of San Rocco, patron saint of the town. The characteristic elements of the event are the parade of floats, miniature replicas of famous international monuments, agricultural tools related to harvesting, or works imagined by 'tankers', using different techniques to weave the stalks of wheat, a symbol of the countryside, of naturalness and of a people to live and get to know in depth.
