Bordano, the country of butterflies

Bordano is a small town in the province of Udine; rises at 224 meters above sea level and has just 750 inhabitants. However, it is universally known as the city of butterflies. Bordano is mentioned for the first time around the year one thousand in historical documents of the church of Grado but all the fundamental events take place in the 1900s. In fact, during the Second World War Bordano was almost entirely razed to the ground and in 1976 the disastrous earthquake of Friuli totally devastated it. Following this disruptive event Bordano had to reinvent itself and to do this he exploited the massive presence of butterflies within its territory. The butterfly house was therefore built for this purpose in the 1990s. Another reason for Bordano's notoriety is the extraordinary quantity of murals that are present on the walls of the town, true works of art in the open air. Moving instead to the top of the nearby Mount San Simeone at 1,200 meters above sea level, you can visit the pretty little church of the same name; but the extraordinary is represented by the enchanting panorama that can be enjoyed: you can practically see half of Friuli. The only drawback is the not so easy arrival at the top. There are two alternatives: a very winding asphalted road or a wonderful nature trail that starts from the town; true paradise for hikers.
