If you want more excitement you could also try the Il Giardino Sospeso, an adventure park with thrilling treetop courses. The Macchie della Magona...
reserve, close to Bibbona (12 km), is ideal for lovers of trekking and mountain biking, while those who prefer road cycling can train on the routes designed by former world and Olympic champion Paolo Bettini, who lives in the area. Close to Villa Elena there are several golf courses (Tirrenia, San Miniato, Gavorrano, Follonica and Punta Ala). There are also many stables in the area for horse-riding in the woods and the pinewoods. The Costa degli Etruschi has a varied coastline, with stretches of rocky outcrops (“Il Romito”, between Livorno and Castiglioncello, and further south towards Baratti) and beautiful sandy beaches, including the famous “white beach” at Vada (15 km), where the water is crystal-clear. Many beaches in the area have been awarded the Blue Flag label for the quality of the water and of the services offered. The beaches at Cecina Mare, Marina di Bibbona, Marina di Castagneto, San Vincenzo, and Baratti are all well worth a visit. Lining the beaches there are often long stretches of pinewood, perfect for relaxing in the shade, walking, running or cycling. Fashion lovers can visit the designer outlets (the most important in Tuscany are both close to Florence, about 2 hours by car – one at Barberino and the other at Leccio Reggello). The area is also famous for its fine food and wine. There are excellent restaurants and innumerable wine bars, pizzerias, and trattorias where you can sample typical Tuscan dishes: bruschette, crostini, salumi, vegetables, soups, pappardelle with wild boar (the most famous local speciality), tortelli, bistecca fiorentina, grilled meat, and desserts. Wine lovers are spoilt for choice, as the area (especially Bolgheri) produces some of the best wines in the world.
