The Catafurco Waterfall

We reach the source that refreshes us from walking in the sun after visiting some Pagliari, ancient shelters of shepherds during the transhumance with cattle. The path is not tree-lined but flanked by low-scrub grassy rocks. We make the first stop at the 'Lacrime di Maria', natural rain coming from the overhanging stream that weeps in the cavern of a small cave, where a statue of the Madonna has been placed. Following the directions we slip between the rocks hearing the roar of the waterfall. A pebbly beach opens up from which we can admire the jump of the Basilio river. The erosion of the limestone rocks lights up in the light of a golden yellow and the pool of water is clear and deep, ideal for a swim among the wonders of the Giant's Pot. Near the stream a very rare prehistoric plant blooms with the name of Petagna (Petagna Gussonei) which lives in some areas of Sicily, an ancient witness of uncontaminated nature and clear waters.
