In ancient Athens there was a district called Keramike Tecne, that is, the art of ceramics, in these alleys made of stones and a few houses, some craftsmen were already making the first vases; most of these are kept in the Faenza ceramics museum. The museum was founded in 1908, it has grown thanks to donations from various artists, but during the war it was bombed and many pieces were destroyed and recovered only in fragments. The president of the museum wrote a letter to the main artists of the time, who replied, and therefore today we can find pieces by Picasso, Fontana, Matisse and great artists in the museum. The three most important pieces of the museum are: -Coppa Bergantini, an Italian Renaissance masterpiece of 1529, one of the first pieces ever with biographical reference, represents the Sacrifice of Marco Curzio; - from the Doccia di Ginori manufacture, a very large love scene, an important porcelain sculpture, because it was reconstructed by skilled hands that put together the 109 pieces that compose it; - Picasso's pieces, he began to work with ceramics in 1946, in France, Picasso intervened on the forms already made by potters with his flair and style. The historical section of the museum documents the history not only of Italy, but also of Europe; the modern part, on the other hand, is documented by the International Ceramic Award which takes place every two years in Faenza, artists from all over the world send their masterpieces and many remain in the museum as a donation.
