San Mauro Castelverde is a charming Sicilian town, immersed in the green of the Madonie, in the province of Palermo; located at 1050 meters above sea level, it has 1,500 inhabitants. It is a pretty village rich in history and nature. Dominated from above by its castle, from which you can enjoy an extraordinary panorama that ranges from the centers on the Tyrrhenian Sea, to the neighboring villages, up to Etna. The fresh air and the view of the sea are the main attractions offered to tourists. It is the only country in Italy, above 1000 meters, to enjoy an outlet to the sea. The church of San Giorgio Martire is the symbol of the village, with its bell tower. Built in the 12th century, it offers an interior rich in art; in addition to interesting columns and capitals there is a wooden crucifix by a pupil of Father Umile of Petralia, frescoes by Pietro Berna, a very special didactic painting and a marble icon from 1514. the town has many interesting churches. San Mauro Castelverde has an extensive municipal area rich in nature, in fact the famous gorges of Tiberius fall within it. Recently established the zip line, flight of the angel, an adrenaline-pumping experience that consists of a 1600 meter jump starting from the former Capuchin convent.
