Cesena is a town of about 97,000 inhabitants in the province of Forlì-Cesena. The city is located in the center of Romagna halfway between the Adriatic Sea and the hills. Cesena is the city of good living and beauty; the historic center of the city is the pulsating heart of the life of the citizens, the Savio river that crosses the city is a green and blue infrastructure made of water that reminds us of the harmony of nature and the inhabited center. The cultural activity of the Alessandro Bonci Municipal Theater offers a very rich program. The theater inaugurated in 1846 is equipped with excellent acoustics, it is a horseshoe-shaped theater with four tiers of twenty-three boxes each, two of the proscenium and a gallery. Cesena is also the city of the popes to whom the streets and buildings have been dedicated. The abbey of the mountain is a place that has made many visitors fall in love, it stands on the Spaziano hill on the remains of a previous church. The interior has a nave with four chapels on each side, which preserve works of art of great prestige such as the Longhi frieze representing the life of the Virgin. Cesena opens its doors to the social, for years the city has been involved in promoting social activities trying to make the city as hospitable as possible to all the disabled. The Malatesta library dating back to the 15th century was founded by the Franciscan friars and the lord of the city Malatesta. It is the first European civic library and the only example of a perfectly preserved humanistic monastic library. The 243 codices are perfectly preserved and divided between scientific, humanistic and monastic; on display there are 2 Seneca codes that are changed every month, all the codes have been digitized to give everyone the opportunity to read them. The library preserves a room dedicated to Pius VII owned by the state and kept in the Piana library, inside there are musical codes and the smallest book in the world by Galileo Galilei. The guided tour of the library takes place in winter from 09: 00 to 17: 00 while in summer from 09: 00 to 19: 00, the time changes are due to the fact that the library has no artificial lights and therefore it is necessary to follow the solar lights. The library has been included by UNESCO in the register of the Memory of the world since 2005. The Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista whose works began in 1385 is the main place of worship in the city. The exterior of the church is very simple in Roman style, the upper part has a triangular pediment, two semicircular tympanums and two pillars. To the right of the portal there is an inscription, to the left of the church there is a bronze statue of San Giovanni Battista; the interior has three naves, in the right aisle there is a wooden crucifix from the 15th century and then a sepulchral ark. The chapel of the Madonna del Popolo with frescoes from the 16th century. Some typical dishes of the area are: Romagna piadina, Fossa cheese, squacquerone, tortelletti and all egg pasta, salami and cracklings. In the Villa di Carducci it is possible to visit the room where he stayed for 11 summers, the room has remained exactly as he left it on 23 October 1906, the year in which he became the first Italian Nobel Prize winner. Inside the villa there is the museum of mechanical musical instruments which consists of 7 rooms; in the first room you enter a curtain in which there is a mechanical drum by Da Vinci, in the second room with a nineteenth-century theme there are carillons, in room number three there are the instruments of the Italian school, in the fourth room there is a room for sound recording, the fifth room is dedicated to Queen Margherita with crank piano and the 'mechanical fingers' instrument, the sixth room presents the 'Violano Virtuoso' a mechanical instrument capable of playing a violin and a piano at the same time, in the last room there is it is a fair organ from the first half of the 19th century.
