Sarnonico

Sarnonico is a small village in the Val di Non. Starting from the heart of the village we find many historical layers, which can be seen in the territory. The most significant monument is Morenberg Castle, a symbol of the power of the De Moris family, a part of the ancient fortified residence was lost in a fire; near the castle we find Morenberg palace, now the town hall, its structure dominates the central square, on the external facades a sundial dating back to 1500 emerges; inside the palace preserves its most precious treasures, which came to light after the restoration in the late 90s. On the first floor there were receptions and business meetings; the hall of coats of arms brings back to the ancient glories of the family. The second floor is the area dedicated to intellectual pleasures, in the greyhound room the dog symbol of the family stands out, while in the room of the daughters we find representations of female figures; the stube instead preserves the frescoes depicting the virtues alternating with biblical characters and noble coats of arms. Along the central course of the town we find the church of Santa Maria of the thirteenth century, both the facade and the interior with a single nave, retain the original Romanesque style, the bell tower has a series of mullioned windows and three-light windows that lighten the top of the tower incorporated in the structure, some elements of the rich decoration of the past are preserved that show us a book of colors; shapes and colors that we find in the Gothic style church of San Lorenzo, it preserves the Renaissance and Baroque interventions. We also find the church of San Giorgio with a Renaissance portal with Gothic mullioned window and the high altar with a real baroque triumph. The pasture area is today one of the jewels of the area, at 1315 meters open the Boschi delle Regole where in ancient times the farmers mowed the fodder and collected the wood for the winter, the name derives from the ancient pacts stipulated between the members of the community .
