Casina is an Emilian town in the province of Reggio Emilia, has 4,500 inhabitants and is located at 574 meters above sea level. The symbolic place of Casina is certainly the Castello di Sarzano, a Canossan defensive fortress of the ninth century that has experienced various vicissitudes from the time of Matilda di Canossa to Napoleon, restored and rebuilt several times, and was even often used as a film set. Of absolute importance is the Oratory of Beleo, 10th century, Romanesque with a shrine in the surrounding grove in honor of the Alpine soldiers who fell in war. Noteworthy is the Pieve di Paullo, X century, Romanesque with original capitals inside and the Pieve di Pianzo, also X century, always Romanesque. In these hills, Parmigiano Reggiano was born 1000 years ago, to which a fair has been dedicated for over 50 years; gastronomic excellence of the territory moves an industrial and touristic induced of all respect. Naturalistic mention deserves the valley of the Tassobbio stream, crossed by well-marked paths, ideal for excursions and walks.
