Badia Calavena a completely green country

The municipality of Badia Calavena rises at the foot of Monte San Pietro, and is characterized by numerous woods full of hornbeams, downy oaks and ash trees. The valley is characterized above all by the paths that link it to the other hamlets. Badia Calavena is a town in turmoil, made up mostly of young people, it is a municipality very involved in the environmental sector, especially as regards the renewable energy sector. It represents one of the first Cimbrian settlements in Lessinia, an ancient civilization with Germanic origins. The first settlements date back to 1040 when the city was under the jurisdiction of the bishop of Verona of German origins, who had a sanctuary dedicated to St. Peter built on a hill which unfortunately was immediately destroyed, but on the ruins, thanks to the German monks, the monastery of the Santissimi Pietro, Vito and Modesto. Monastery which was later consecrated by Pope Lucio III, naming it della Calavena because it was built in the homonymous valley from here the village of Badia Calavena took its name. A short distance from Badia Calavena is the paleontological site of the Pleistogene, where fossils are kept, in fact the pesciana del bolga is the most important fossil site in the world. It is possible to complete the path to the site by watching a film and large panels with reconstruction of habitats from more than 350 million years ago. The most important fossil found is the 'Angelfish', a very rare fish of 8 generations. The flint museum is a very special museum because inside there are no historical artifacts but reproductions, which can be touched and used by all visitors. To admire the frescoes of the Madonna and the votive columns, just move to the Pieve di Sa Leonardo. The territory of Badia Calavena is suitable for long walks in the midst of nature, on the spot it is possible to make mountain bike tours and trekking. Wrought iron and woodworking are evidence of the ancient arts present in the town. A festive instrument that drives young and old alike crazy is the Lessina Cimbrian trombino, a device that has the shape of a large gun to which the community is very attached. There are numerous events to which the community is closely linked such as the 'Fiera dei bogoni' which is celebrated in November, this festival is dedicated to snails but also to meetings on heliciculture and truffles. The 'Plan C' is the plan used by the community to rebuild old buildings but also new ones using ancient methods and recycled materials. In keeping with Plan C, the Peper park, the clean and renewable energy park, was established. It was born from the idea of the municipal administration to direct the city towards renewable energies. On the property there are several photovoltaic systems, solar systems and wood chip biomass. In 2008 the first macroelic plant in Veneto was installed. The idea of the park is to make adults and children aware of renewable energy while having fun for a cleaner and more eco-sustainable country. The 'Casa de paper' is the pulsating center of all the activities that are carried out. It is also possible to stay in the house. The city has always been rich in herbs that women have been able to use for the treatment of the body and face. In 2001 the 'officinal herbs pole' project was born, consisting of a garden where you can find the herbs of Don Zocca and the flora that is used by the resident herb producers for the processing of oils and creams. The ecomuseum also takes care of spreading tourism, which with the theme of the districts lends itself to a form of involvement of the territory aimed at getting to know the city.
