Vittorio Veneto

Lying between the plain and the Belluno Alps, Vittorio Veneto extends to the left of the Piave river with a hilly landscape that embraces the city, characterized by expanses of vineyards for the production of Prosecco Superiore. Gold medal for military valor and bishopric for over 1000 years, the city is universally known for the victorious final battle of the 1st World War. Vittorio Veneto took shape in 1866 from the merger of the towns of Ceneda and Serravalle. Important city of art, we pass by the Portico della Loggia del Sansovino and we find the building that was once the town hall of Ceneda, today Museo della Battaglia, born in 1938, where there are mainly objects related to the war experience of Luigi Marson, which began its collection during the war, divided today into thematic areas: the first shows life in the trenches, the second shows life during the year of occupation, the third tells the three battles of the Piave. Opposite the museum is the Episcopal Seminary, where Lorenzo Da Ponte studied, known for being Mozart's librettist for some of his works; nearby stands the cathedral of Vittorio Veneto overlooking Piazza Giovanni Paolo I, known as Pope Luciani, who was bishop of the city before being elected to the throne of Peter. The part of Serravalle is considered a small Florence, a historical center of great value with the Museo del Cenedese, located in the palace of the community of Serravalle, the church of San Lorenzo, the Teatro Da Ponte, which has now become a theatrical academy, and the church of Santa Maria Nova. The square of Serravalle is dedicated to Marcantonio Flaminio, overlooked by buildings in Venetian-Gothic style and is closed on one side by the Meschio River. Then we find Palazzo Minucci-De Carlo, home to a collection of objects collected by Giacomo Camillo De Carlo, highly decorated war hero and secret agent for the Italian government.
