Treviso: the city of canals, halfway between the sea and the mountains

Treviso is a Venetian city, the provincial capital, one of the safest and richest in the north-east. Its location is halfway between the Dolomites and the Adriatic Sea. The presence of waterways, rivers and canals has given the city the opportunity to develop by feeding the shops such as tanneries and paper mills. From a tourist point of view, the rivers make the landscape fascinating. The main watercourse is the Sile river, surrounded by walkways and lots of greenery. Characteristic is the famous Buranelli canal where it is possible to admire the ancient linen wash houses, now embellished with flowers, but still suspended over the placid waters of the canal. Another channel to see is the Cagnan, with an islet in the center called Pescheria, where the fish market took place. Special mention for Piazza San Vito, one of the main and most fascinating, and the stele built in memory of Dante Alighieri's mention of the city in the Divine Comedy, which is located right on Ponte Dante. The remains of Pietro Alighieri, son of the great poet, also rest in the city. The main museum complex of the city is the Cloister of Santa Caterina. Among the civil buildings to visit, Palazzo dei Trecento with the Piazza dei Signori and the Loggia dei Cavalieri stand out. Finally, we must not forget the typical gastronomic products such as the many cheeses and in particular a very famous dessert: Tiramisu.
