Forlì: a city on a human scale

Forlì is a city in Romagna, the capital of the province of Forlì-Cesena. In ancient times it was called Forum Livii. As it stood on the Via Livia. Forlì is a city on a human scale, which is why the ideal is to cross it on foot or by bicycle to admire its places of interest. Rocca di Ravaldino (or Rocca di Caterina Sforza) is a citadel of medieval origin, which today houses the city's prisons. Corso della Repubblica is one of the main arteries, and has many buildings of artistic and cultural interest, such as Palazzo della Merenda, born as the 'house of God for the sick', now home to the municipal library. Piazza Saffi is one of the largest squares in Italy (about 128 meters long and 87 meters wide); in the center of the square stands the statue of Aurelio Saffi and its perimeter is surrounded by some of the most famous buildings in the city. The Basilica of San Mercuriale and its bell tower are the most important symbol of the city; the façade recalls the Romanesque style, and an adoration of the magi is carved above the portal. The Lombard Romanesque bell tower is 70 meters high, and resembles that of San Marco in Venice.
