Palazzolo Acreide is a town of 8,000 inhabitants, located at 670 meters above sea level in the province of Syracuse. Baroque jewel of the most crystalline of the whole island, its name betrays ancient Greek roots; heritage of humanity since 2002, in addition to the amazing baroque present, it boasts naturalistic excellences such as the iblei mountains, the Anapo river and the rock necropolis of Pantalica. It is also included in the official list of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The first stop is certainly the ancient theater of Akrai, obviously Greek, dating back to the III-II century BC. C, discovered in 1824. Do not miss the Baroque itinerary including both amazing churches, those of San Paolo and San Sebastiano above all, and marvelous noble palaces. A curiosity: in Palazzolo Acreide there is the longest baroque balcony in Europe, 30 meters, obviously not to be missed. Its typical cuisine excels in the pastry and the renowned local sausage, whose secret lies in the particular mixture.
