Diano Marina is a town of about 5,800 inhabitants in the province of Imperia located in the eastern part of the Riviera dei Fiori, 5 km east of the capital. Nestled between the blue of the Ligurian Sea on which it overlooks and the green hills behind it, the village extends along the enchanting Gulf of Diano Marina, protected from the cold winds of the north by the heights between Capo Berta to the west and Capo Cervo to its shoulders. This sort of natural barrier gives the city a mild climate even in winter, like the entire Riviera, allowing, thanks to moderate rainfall combined with continuous sunshine and the right humidity, the flowering and growth of flowers and green plants practically throughout the course of the year, a characteristic from which the denomination of the area derives. The variety of vegetation that a climate of this type allows has as a result that maritime pines, olive trees and citrus trees, typical of the Mediterranean scrub, mix with palm trees and agaves which have the coasts of North Africa as their original habitat. Although traces of settlements date back to the Paleolithic, the foundation of the first inhabited nucleus dates back to 200 BC. C, when the Romans gave life to a stopping point called Lucus Bormani, which then gained notoriety in the Benedictine era, coming to ally itself with the Republic of Genoa. Architectural symbol of the city and the Parish Church of Sant'Antonio near the seafront, rebuilt several times, in the neoclassical style. The economy of Diano, in addition to drawing sap from flowers and plants, has always been essentially agricultural, based in addition to the cultivation of basil and tomatoes in the fertile lands of the hinterland, the production of small Taggiasca olives and the relative oil internationally known. From the last century, first at the level of elite, then starting from the 60s with mass diffusion, the village has also given itself a strong tourist connotation, relying on the extension of beaches of fine sand, clear sea and the port tradition now converted into a shelter and maintenance of pleasure boats of all sizes. To complete it all, the creation of functional hotel structures and night clubs, meeting points for nightlife.
