Campo di Giove: rugged and fascinating nature in the village of the brigand for love

Campo di Giove is an important tourist resort in Abruzzo, known mainly for its ski resort. It is located within the Peligna mountain community and the Maiella national park. It is therefore surrounded by very characteristic mountain landscapes and by a luxuriant nature that also attracts lovers of trekking, excursions and nature walks. It has always been a place of passage and it seems that many people and conquerors arrived in Italy or in other places passing through here: it is said of Hannibal, the Lombards and many others. History has left many testimonies in the town such as the Porta della Serra, from which Fortebraccio da Montone arrived in 1400 and put the city to fire and sword, sacking it. As evidence, the street is still 'via del sack' today. In the same place where the church of Sant'Eustacchio stands today, it seems that the temple of Jupiter was located, which gave the town its name. Typical food is the 'pappone', a sort of soup with stale bread and vegetables, of pastoral origin. The village is linked to the figure of the brigand Primiano, born Fabiano Marcucci, engaged in the phenomenon of banditry during the fights between the Bourbons and the Piedmontese. His name is known because he became a brigand for love, he was one of the most sought after in Italy and is stained with various crimes, including very violent ones. Captured after a long time, he was locked up for 45 years and on his return to the village, he was greeted with a lot of curiosity.
