Monopoli, a unique city.

Monopoli is a large Apulian center in the province of Bari, with 50,000 inhabitants. One of the most active and important port on the Adriatic, Monopoli owes its name to the Greeks who baptized it as a unique city, and still holds true to the ancient name while retaining an enormous charm resulting from its history and tradition. There is also the liveliness of its various productive activities: agriculture, fishing, livestock and tourism. The territory is rich in olive groves that produce an oil that is appreciated nationally. The area also offers an abundance of typical local buildings: the trulli. Its rugged coastline is remarkable, full of bays, coves, inlets, all characterized by crystal clear waters. Monopoli also boasts a sandy beach of 4 kilometers. The huge Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II is the beating heart of the city. From here we turned on to the historic center where the Cathedral is located, dedicated to the Madonna della Madia, patron saint of the city. It looks like one of the most beautiful baroque churches in Puglia. Not far away is the church of purgatory which preserves the mummified remains of some religious. The sixteenth-century castle of Charles V is splendid, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the port. The ancient cannons are still positioned along the walls. Monopoli also boasts an active shipyard where large fishing boats are built with the ancient technique of the ancient shipwrights.
