The old city is surrounded by a ring of 50 shops dug into the rock, where the earth has been mixed with water since ancient times. Visiting them is an extraordinary experience. From generation to generation the artisans bake their artifacts in the ovens, decorating them with skill. The famous Pomi are exhibited in all the shelves and also in the museum of the Episcopio Castle. The rooms of the building, built in tuff by the archbishopric of Taranto, are always open and free to enter, where the most ancient ceramics are exhibited, such as vases, decorations and utensils. The artisan tradition is also encountered in the setting up of the stone Nativity scene made in the Church of the Madonna del Carmine. Located on a promontory of the Murge, the village also has an agricultural tradition. On holiday here you will walk among the golden wheat and centuries-old olive trees, silver and majestic. Mediterranean gardens are inhabited by the figs of India that grow spontaneously, adorning the old walls. Among the religious buildings you can visit the church of San Mattia from 1476, the facade decorated in Baroque style.
