Naturalistic and historical paths to Lake Idro.

The route starts from Lake Idro, a fascinating body of water around which a beloved cycle and pedestrian path winds its way. The path leads to Zumiè to climb up to the Monte Stino Refuge and the colorful Alpini church. The road goes through woods and streams, crosses the horse trail and the crossroads of the paths that visit the wooded headlands around the lake. At an altitude of 1400 m the viewpoint extends up to the Adamello and the surrounding slopes, often grazed by cows, during the summer months. The memory of the border and of the trench lines, built with low walls or tunnels, against the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which were not new, but rebuilt on the belligerent line of the Kingdom of the three Venetian regions of 1573, is still alive. We visit the war museum in Capovalle, a nearby town, where we consult maps, war plans, read letters, messages, weapons, dreams of peace. The Refuge, which can be reached in about two hours, prepares local dishes such as local cheeses, pappardelle with mushroom or meat sauce.
