The smallest and most particular village in Italy, Morterone

We are in the province of Lecco, in Morterone, the smallest town in Italy. This wonderful village is located at 1070 meters above sea level and is populated by 32 inhabitants! We reach Morterone along a winding road for just over fifteen kilometers; consequently we arrive in a natural basin at the foot of Monte Resegone, mentioned several times by Manzoni in 'I Promessi Sposi'. After stopping a few minutes to take a little dip, with the imagination, in the past, we arrive at the gates of the village. We note that there is not a single residential nucleus, but how Morterone is made up of small scattered hamlets. Walking here and there, we arrive in Piazza della Chiesa, where the town hall and the only church in the town stand. Contrary to what one might think, the village is not only inhabited by the elderly, but also by city kids who have decided to change their lifestyle. Peculiar and interesting to note how the only restaurant in the village, the Trattoria dei Cacciatori, is also the only grocery store. A village a few kilometers from Lecco, surrounded by nature, perfect for a weekend and to visit at least once in a lifetime. Finally, we recall that, in the mid-1980s, the citadel became an art center, where many contemporary artists stayed there.
