San Giovanni di Fassa is a relatively young municipality, established only in 2018 by the merger of the municipalities of Pozza di Fassa and Vigo di Fassa. It is immersed in the nature of the Trentino mountain landscape, and is known for the Buffaure ski resorts, in the territory of the former municipality of Pozza di Fassa, and the Ciampedie which was located in the municipality of Vigo di Fassa. In addition to winter sports, the municipality offers the possibility of various nature trails and trekking, as well as guided visits to places of interest. An example is the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, a parish church, which with its soaring bell tower represents a symbol of the municipality and its panorama. Also known for the characteristic frescoes in the crypt. Also suggestive is the small church of San Giovanni Nepomuceno located in the hamlet of Vallonga. A single nave, sloping roofs and a soaring bell tower, it is typically Alpine. Similar from an architectural point of view are the churches of San Lorenzo, in the hamlet of Pera and San Nicolò, in the hamlet of Pozza di Fassa.
