The beauties of Ponzano Veneto

Ponzano Veneto is a town of nearly 13,000 inhabitants a short distance from Treviso. It consists of three hamlets: Ponzano, Merlengo and Paderno. The town has Roman origins but there are braids that show that this territory was already inhabited in the Paleovenetian era. An archaeological didactic itinerary has been set up in the municipal library in which important finds can be admired, such as a votive disc depicting the Goddess Clavigera. Of great value is also the Oratory of San Vito which has been declared a National Monument. Ponzano is also known as the City of Villas due to the presence in its territory of 11 villas with gardens. Among these deserve a mention Villa Cicogna where the municipality is located and Villa Rubbi-Serena where there is also a magnificent oratory which houses the funerary bust of Paolina Carli Rubbi. An important building is also the Casa dei Mezzadri which houses an interesting permanent collection of vintage cameras. It consists of about 400 pieces donated to citizens by the historic photographer Ettore Piovesan. A fundamental function for the city is played by the Palacicogna where 18 sports are practiced and young people are taught the fundamentals of Fair Play. In the hamlet of Paderno we find the Parish Church which houses the precious Altarpiece of the Assumption made by the artist Antonio Zanchi. In Merlengo stands Villa Corner which inside is embellished with valuable frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo. The work of his son Giandomenico is instead the Altarpiece of Sant'Osvaldo present in the Church of San Bartolomeo Apostolo. Finally, in the Church of Saints Leonardo and Rocco you can admire the Altarpiece of the Sacred Conversation of the Virgin painted by Domenico Capriolo.
