A lifetime is not enough to know Dolcedo.

The village stretches out on the rocky spur which housed the first nucleus of the village in the highest part. Of Lombard foundation, in the Castellazzo locality the Castle of Oldorico Manfredi was built in 1028, but the prosperity of the village is to be attributed to the presence of the Benedictine monks of San Colombano who, with the good governance of the countryside and agriculture, developed the cultivation of olive tree. The copious streams that flow from the mountain coasts favored the use of mills and oil mills. In 1100 the Marquises Bonifacio da Vasto conquered the territory and later the Marquises of Clavesana, who resisted in Genoa and met its bloody repression in 1233. In the 1600s Dolcedo experienced another happy season, becoming autonomous in 1613, when the population grew to 4000 inhabitants. The plague will happen and still other periods of tension that have not destroyed Dolcedo, thanks to the intelligent management of the waterways. Its streets, the thousand corners announced by arches, small caves and plays of light are intertwined with the creepers that cover the buildings and ramparts overlooking the stream. A piece of history is written in every corner of Dolcedo.
