Gan Eden, located in the municipality of Monterenzio, is in a privileged position to visit many of the most beautiful (fascinating and evocative) and characteristic areas of the territory. The structure itself is located a few kilometers from Monte Bibele, an archaeological area known to scholars for being one of the rare European examples of cohabitation between the Etruscan and Celtic populations of the Galli Boii. At the beginning of the sixties of the twentieth century there were the first...
discoveries and subsequent excavations revealed how the archaeological area of Monte Bibele was among the most important in Europe in the Celtic context, both for the richness of the objects found in the necropolis, which testify to the moment of transition from the Etruscan to the Celtic dominion of the Galli Boii, both for the conditions in which it was possible to bring the town back to light: even if it was destroyed by a fire and then abandoned towards the beginning of the 2nd century BC in fact, it gave us a clear snapshot of the daily life of the time. The finds that have been recovered are exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Bologna and for the most part at the Fantini Museum in Monterenzio, which houses the most complete collection of Celtic materials in the region and one of the most important in Italy. Combining history with a passion for nature, one cannot fail to follow the Flaminia Minor route in the immediate vicinity of the town, an ancient road initially used by Roman troops to consolidate the Latin presence in Celtic territory as soon as it was conquered. The area of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines was the (adverse) scene of events of great importance even during the Second World War, when the Allied front settled there for seven months during the winter months. The war events have left living testimony through the war relics that are now visible in the different museums scattered on the places where the Gothic Line of German fortification once stood. The Museum of the Gothic Line in Our Lands was recently opened in the municipality of Monterenzio, where documentary panels are placed side by side with original finds. Also the War Museum of Castel del Rio, which houses artifacts found in the Santerno Valley, or the Historical Ethnographic Museum of Bruscoli, in the Tuscan territory, give clear evidence of the cohabitation of our population with the foreign troops that flocked to the area during the conflict. Furthermore, just after crossing the border of the region with Tuscany, located a few kilometers from our farmhouse, it is possible to visit the Germanic Military Cemetery of Futa, where the bodies of 30,683 German soldiers perished during the military operations of 1944 and 1945 were buried. Again in the Emilian territory we must then mention the Monte Sole Historical Park, which commemorates the massacre carried out in the homonymous area by Nazi-Fascist forces in 1944.In the neighboring localities, it is also possible to visit those places of religious interest that have contributed to making our valley characteristic. In the immediate vicinity of the farmhouse there is the Camping Sanctuary, defined as the " little Lourdes of Bologna" because, although it is not linked to any miraculous appearance or manifestation of the Madonna, it is an artificial reproduction of the famous Massabielle Grotto. We cannot fail to mention, then, the sanctuary of Santa Maria di Zena, better known as Monte delle Formiche. This name derives from a very particular natural phenomenon that occurs every year, from the most remote times, when in the first days of September the males of the winged ants migrate from the center of Europe in swarms on this peak to make their nuptial flight. Once mated, the ants go to die in the hundreds of thousands in the sanctuary area. According to tradition, the culmination of this phenomenon can be observed on 8 September, which has become the feast day at the sanctuary, although the exact date may vary depending on the climatic conditions. The importance of the sanctuary is also due to its privileged position that allows you to enjoy an amazing panorama and the presence of the hermit's cave, carved into the rock and inhabited in the sixteenth century by a hermit belonging to the order of the Jesuits. Today, unfortunately, the cave remains visible only from the outside due to a natural collapse of the rock in 2003.However, thanks to its location surrounded by nature and the green of the Apennines, while ensuring proximity to the comforts and leisure of the city, it allows direct contact with nature and with pastimes of a manifest naturalistic imprint. In this regard, the area where our structure is located is well known among enthusiasts for its numerous and exciting trekking routes recognized by the CAI and mountain biking. The tracks, thanks to their variety and diversification, allow everyone to choose the one they prefer for difficulty, panorama and way of walking. Even the aforementioned Monte Sole Historical Park not only offers the opportunity to visit the memorial sites of the massacre, but thanks to its varied fauna and plant heritage, it is an excellent alternative for outdoor trips. The same argument can be made for Monte delle Formiche, which is able to guarantee, especially from a geological point of view, a vast and interesting choice of naturalistic itineraries. Moreover, with a few minutes by car, you can reach the wonders of the Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi and Calanchi dell'Abbadessa, the largest karst park in Emilia Romagna, where the roads and paths that cross this protected area allow you to approach unexpected beauty. From the highest points the view embraces the great plain and, on clear days, the horizon is closed by the almost unreal vision of the Alps. With a short excursion you can still admire the traces of the ancient way of the water mills that once characterized the area between Loiano and Monghidoro, or admire the sky and the stars, without the negative and annoying effects due to the city lighting, at the Loiano Astronomical Observatory. We must not forget to mention that, for motorcycle enthusiasts, the B& B Gan Eden can be an excellent starting point to tackle part of the Passo della Futa route. What was once the state road 65 is defined by centaurs as an ideal road which, since it ends in Tuscany, in addition to guaranteeing breathtaking views, allows you to indulge in a good Florentine steak in the numerous restaurants in the area. Our B& B is 39 km from the center of Bologna " the learned", a city that falls in love with, always alive by day and by night with its taverns. You can visit it in one day, but to say that you have seen it a little bit it takes at least a weekend. Otherwise, the only images that remain in the memory of the hasty tourist are the leaning towers, Asinelli and Garisenda, which form the background of via Rizzoli, and the imposing forms of the " Giant", the monumental statue representing the god Neptune while calming the waters. , cast in bronze by Giambologna in the sixteenth century, which dominates the homonymous square. Too little: because Carducci's " dusky turreted Bologna" must not only be seen but also smelled, tasted, discovered slowly, covering, as far as possible, its 35 kilometers of arcades, visiting its churches starting from San Petronio - second length only to the Roman basilica of San Pietro - with its extraordinary linear sundial, or stopping for a few minutes in the downtown market, where there is always someone discussing and explaining how to make a good ragù. And we cannot overlook the Archiginnasio with the ancient anatomical theater, the Piazza Grande, the picture gallery full of the most famous works of the Bolognese school of Carracci, Guido Reni and Guercino, the church of Santo Stefano, built in imitation of the temple of Jerusalem, the lace and filigree of the Palazzo della Mercanzia. It is all located in a small patch of space under the towers, the beating heart of the city since the Middle Ages, from which all the streets radiate out. Gan Eden is also the ideal choice for those who want a totally relaxing stay. A small paradise that rises in the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, in an extremely quiet place, far away from the stress of city life, the stay of which will turn daily hardships into just a faded memory. In summer, you can immerse yourself in the waters of the well-equipped Acquapark di Monterenzio swimming pool while, walking only a handful of kilometers, you can reach the Salute Più Thermal Village, which offers thermal baths, massages, wellness and treatments all year round. Thanks to its location near the Via Emilia, the main economic and commercial hub, and the industrial center of Imola, it can be the best choice for business trips. Golf enthusiasts can indulge their passion at the nationally recognized Molino del Pero Golf Club, just a few kilometers from our facility, or practice horse riding in the various riding schools in the area, often also equipped with a riding school. Our B& B is entirely non-smoking, with 3 double bedrooms each with its own private bathroom and a splendid view overlooking a park of 3000 square meters with sun beds and umbrellas at the complete disposal of our customers. The rooms also have a lounge with TV and fully equipped kitchen, complete with pots and pans.
