Assoro is an ancient city in Sicily, in the province of Enna. The city was founded by the Sicilians, on Mount 'La Stella'. During its history the city did not suffer any interference from the Greek side. In 396 a. C, was the only city to side with the Syracusans opposing the Carthaginians. This fact was taken in favor by the Greeks so much that they let him mint his own currency. The main depictions of the coins are: the Chrysas River, in the form of a naked young man with an amphora in his right hand and a cornucopia in his left hand and a pair of yoked oxen. Through a staircase you reach the Norman castle of Assoro of 1200, of which only the ruins and the cylindrical tower remain today. The castle had a defensive function. Under the castle there are some settlements dug into the stone probably of Etruscan origin. A few kilometers away there is a singular naturalistic landscape within which the Sartori lake extends with its 42000 woods, a place where the colors of nature with strong colors mix with a spectacular scenery.
